Alien Bee Strobes
October 5th, 2007 | by Without Fluff |I just purchased a set of Alien Bees Flash Strobe Lights. I ordered a quantity of four B800 lights directly from their website at www.alienbees.com. I read a bunch of reviews from other users and everyone seems to really rave about them.
After receiving these lights, I can definitely share with you that the following is absolutely true:
- Paul C. Buff is the owner of the company for Alien Bees and he stands by all of his products with superb customer service. He and his staff go above and beyond to provide outstanding service with a 60-day no questions asked satisfaction guarantee.
- 2 Year Warranty on their products. This warranty also covers the original flashtube.
- Fantastic upgrade policy on their products. If you purchase a flash unit and find yourself needing to upgrade to a higher model, you only pay $25 + the difference in cost between your current model and the newer model. How many other companies do you see that can offer this?
- Very well built & designed products. Quality construction, build, and materials used. These flash units are made to provide many years of reliable use while still providing top notch performance.
- Price. I think they definitely hit a bullseye with their target price points for their products. Their flashes are priced extremely reasonably. You won’t find any other comparable flash units for the money that you pay here. You can get professional grade quality and performance without the professional high price tag.
I snapped a few pictures of the lights and the contents of what you receive when ordering one of these units. I’ll be playing with these lights the next few days so I’ll try to post more test pictures up at a later time. I LOVE these lights! I think this is one of the best purchases I have made in a long time.

I am ready to take the plunge into my first set of mono lights and am seriously considering the AB’s. Since your post on “without fluff” 10/2007, how have your AB800’s worked out? Have you found that the 800’s are powerful enough to do small group/family portraiture? (3-8 people?)
Any feedback (good and bad) is appreciated.
Thanks, Tim
